I am sitting in a hotel in Amarillo, Texas after four days of our road trip and Matt and I are already exhausted! Our first stop after 13 hours of driving was Nashville, Tennessee, which was a lot of fun. We drank in a honky tonk bar with live music the night we arrived, and then had an amazing brunch at a bar called Past Perfect (they had at least 15 different flavored infused vodkas!), toured the historic Ryman Theater and bought cowboy boots the next day. Unfortunately, on the afternoon on our second day, I came down with a fever and the chills and ruined what would have been a second night of exploring the Nashville nightlife. What an epic fail!

After Nashville, we drove past Graceland in Memphis thoroughly unimpressed and decided to not waste a day there and headed to Little Rock, Arkansas 6 hours away. We spent the night in Little Rock and had dinner in a weird little place called Sticky's. We were right by the River Market district which was cute with all the restaurants and bars by the river but it was really deserted. Maybe because it was a Thursday?
We didn't waste any more time in the Little Rock area either so we headed out to Amarillo right away this morning. The old historic Route 66 runs along Interstate 40, which is what we're taking all the way to California, so we decided to find it. We ended up eating at some really old burger joint on the old Route 66 in El Reno, a small town right outside of Oklahoma city and was amazed at the really small town feel. We got tired of it quickly and went back on the interstate to speed up our 10 hour drive to the Texas panhandle.
On tomorrow's agenda: hiking in the Palo Duro Canyon (the 2nd largest canyon in the US) and camping outside.
