Gross

Just read an article on Yahoo! about some pretty disturbing ingredients in food.  Click here for it.  No wonder everybody gets cancer!  I've been trying to buy everything organic (Thank you, Trader Joe's!) but I just keep thinking about all the other chemicals we ingest on a daily basis.  And thanks to all the food documentaries my husband forced me to watch, I just keep getting more and more grossed out by the process of manufacturing the food we eat. (I really recommend Food, Inc.Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead, and Food Matters.)

Then I started thinking about this one portion of a talk show that I saw about BPA in plastic and how plastic pretty much holds everything we eat and drink which may be releasing chemicals into them depending on the type of plastic it is.  So even if the actual food doesn't have chemicals injected into it, there probably are chemicals leaking out into it from the container it's in (i.e. the tomato's acidity causing the plastic lining in a metal can to break down).

I know I sound like a total Cali hippie right now, but with all this information being brought out by the media these days, I find it almost essential to buy most things organic to avoid pesticides and chemicals for anything where I would eat the skin of, and tomato sauce in glass jars, as opposed to metal cans (this one is going to be hard) and making sure my meats are hormone free.  Yeah, it might cost a little more in the long run, but I'd much rather spend a couple more bucks to know that I am eating foods that have avoided all those potentially harmful ingredients.
