Goodbye, NC! Here we come, CA!

Dinner at Rick's on 28 Jan 2012

How is it the end of January already?!  As much as I complained about being in the South and staying in a deserted  beach resort for the past four months, I will admit that I will miss waking up to the sound of the ocean waves crashing and seeing the ocean out the window everyday.  There is some kind of peacefulness that comes with it, especially from someone who comes from a city that is constantly on the go, totally overpopulated, and SO loud.

I flew to Jacksonville on Saturday and we had dinner with another couple, Scott and Morgan, who will be headed out to Camp Pendleton next month too.  We went to Rick's, which is a pretty good restaurant in Sneads Ferry.  The appetizers and sandwiches are fantastic (the boneless chicken app, french dip sandwich, and dirty bird sandwiches are our faves!) but don't get the salads... I made the mistake of attempting to be "healthy" that night and ended up with a plate full of candied walnuts and dried fruit that overpowered the watery iceberg lettuce.  I barely ate any of it because it was just way too sweet.  On a brighter note, the mussels appetizer was delicious!

Yesterday, Matt got his usual weekly haircut but they missed a couple of spots so we went over to Mike & Katie's house in Surf City to get it cleaned up.  I was in dire need of a trim as well so Katie tamed down my crazy layers and we ended up staying to drink some beers and eat pizza.  They're headed out to Hawaii next month so we were sad to say bye to them because who knows when we'll be able to see them again.  I am, however, convinced we will find some way to have a spontaneous trip to Hawaii once we're out west!
