We couldn't have asked for better weather this Easter weekend in good ol' Southern California -- 75+ degrees on Saturday and Sunday!
On Friday, Matt went into work early to take a test and was home by 10am so we ended up taking a little trip to Joshua Tree National Park 2.5 hours away (really close to Twentynine Palms & Big Bear Mountain too). We packed our tent, sleeping bags, and some food for the campfire. Coming from the city, I had never had an overnight outdoor camping experience so I didn't really know what to expect. When we arrived at the park, all of the campsites were completely full already so we had to drive a couple miles to a different campground outside of the park. The place was called "Joshua Tree Lake Campgrounds", which was more like a pond than a "lake", but it ended up not being so bad considering it was a full moon and we were in the desert surrounded by mountains. We were able to park the Jeep right next to our tent and fire so everything was easily accessible. We went on a steep hike on Friday and a 4-wheel drive "Geology Tour" on Saturday through very deserted parts of the park though. Here are some photos I took:
